The Aims of the Competition:
- the maintenance and development of the best traditions of world art of piano performance
- the activation of spiritual enrichment and creativity of young musicians from Malta and other countries on the basis of piano music
- the achievement of musical exchange and the development of international cooperation among musicians from different countries all over the World.
- the popularisation of classical music
- the popularisation of Maltese piano music
- the popularisation of piano works by new young composers
The Purposes of the Competition:
- to reveal young gifted musicians and to help them in their artistic progress and professional career
- to enhance the prestige of academic music specialities and to arouse social interest in piano art
- to exchange experience of young musicians and to improve their professional skills
- to promote young Maltese and foreigner young pianists in Europe
- to promote City of Valletta as Cultural Destination of Europe.
General Regulations
The Competition is open to pianists of any nationality of age 7 to 17 years.
The deadline to enter the competition is 15th January 2021.
After deadline please contact us for availability in your age category.
TRAVEL: Arrival: 7th or 8th February 2018 - Departure: Monday, 12th February 2018
Travel expenses to and from Malta are the responsibility of the contestants.
Family members/friends who will be accompanying competitors are responsible for their own accommodation.
Upon arrival, competitors will immediately register with the competition committee at a designated location.
All competitors will be required to attend the opening ceremony on the 8th February 2018 at approx. at 17.00, during which they will draw for the order of performance for all stages of the Competition.
Competitors who are eliminated are not obligated to stay for the remainder of the Competition, but are invited to do so and will be continuously hosted until the end as courtesy of the committee. Finalists are expected to participate in the closing ceremony of the Competition.
Prizes and Awards will be announced and presented immediately following the Final Round at the closing ceremony of the competition on the Sunday, 11th February, 2018.
The International Jury's decisions are final and not subject to review.
All prize winners will be responsible for appearing in all concert engagements arranged by the competition committee.
All VIPC performances and events will be open to the public, so competition rounds may include a live audience.
The Valletta International Piano Competition shall be the sole owner and copyright holder of any audio- and/or video-recording that may be done of any activities or events sponsored by the competition. By participating, competitors agree to release all rights to compensation for such recordings.
