The Aims of the Competition:
- the maintenance and development of the best traditions of world art of piano performance
- the activation of spiritual enrichment and creativity of young musicians from Malta and other countries on the basis of piano music
- the achievement of musical exchange and the development of international cooperation among musicians from different countries all over the World.
- the popularisation of classical music
- the popularisation of Maltese piano music
- the popularisation of piano works by new young composers
The Purposes of the Competition:
- to reveal young gifted musicians and to help them in their artistic progress and professional career
- to enhance the prestige of academic music specialities and to arouse social interest in piano art
- to exchange experience of young musicians and to improve their professional skills
- to promote young Maltese and foreigner young pianists in Europe
- to promote City of Valletta as Cultural Destination of Europe.
The VII edition of the Valletta International Piano Competition is open to pianists of any nationality from7 to 28 years.
The DEADLINE to enter the competition: 5th December 2023 at 23.59
Late submission will not be accepted.
Competitors who are eliminated are not obligated to stay for the remainder of the Competition, but are invited to do so and
will be continuously hosted until the end as courtesy of the committee. Finalists are expected to participate in the closing ceremony Gala-Concert of the Competition.
Prizes and Awards will be announced and presented immediately following the Final Round at the closing ceremony of the competition 11th February 2024.
GALA CONCERT of the Grand Prix Winners and other Special Award Winners will be published online on Sunday, 11th February 2024
The International Jury's decisions are final and not subject to review.
The Valletta International Piano Competition shall be the sole owner and copyright holder of any audio- and/or
video-recording that may be done of any activities or events sponsored by the competition. The video material sent
for participation is not returnable. By Applying to Competition All Competitors are automatically giving rights to
publish all video material at our official YouTube channel.
Competition is organized by the European Centre for Culture & Arts in collaboration with European Piano Teachers Association Malta Supported by the World Association of Performing Arts WAPA Europe
AGE CATEGORIES & Programme duration:
Young: Category A - 7 - 9 years programme duration: up to 3 min Solo or Duets
Category B - 10 - 12 years programme duration: up to 6 min Solo or Duets
Junior: Category C - 13 - 14 years programme duration: up to 6 min Solo or Duets
Category D - 15 - 17 years programme duration: up to 8 min Solo or Duets
Senior: Category E - 18 - 30 years programme duration: up to 10-14 min Solo or Duets
Competition will be in TWO ROUNDS. The FIRST ROUND – evaluation of all pianists by the board of judges.
The International Jury will choose 8 the best FINALISTS from all Categories and from them will be chosen GRAND PRIX Junior and GRAND PRIX Winner.
REPERTOIR
Programme can include ONE or TWO contrasting piano works of different styles: baroque, classical, romantic , contemporary.
Full details of each piece/work of the applicant's repertoire must be listed and should include:
Name of composer
•Full title of the piece
•Catalogue/Opus Number
•Movement
•Duration:
Repeats are left to the artistic discretion of the competitor. Repertoire preferred to be performed from memory.
VIDEO RECORDING:
Video of the pianist has to be recorded in horizontal way clearly showing face and hands
Video must be uploaded to YouTube channel.
The link of YouTube video with your performances has to be included in Application Form

Categories A, B – 100 EUR / 110 S
Categories C, D, E – 120 EUR / 130 S
DUETS A, B – 120 EUR / 130 S
DUETS C, D, E - 120 EUR / 130 S
SELECTION OF COMPETITORS
All applicants will be informed of their acceptance or rejection during 3-5 days from sent application form.
The Organizing Committee will send an official confirmation to each participant as soon as the completed set of application documents and participation fee from the participant has been received by the Committee.
No further correspondence can be entered into after the decision of the selection panel has been made.

INTERNATIONAL JURY
The International Jury consists highly professional pianists and professors from different countries.
Jury Members are not judging participants of their country !
The members of Jury selects its prize winners based on a combination of factors; musical refinement, versatility, sensitivity and passion. The Board of the Jury members will be announced from the 1st February 2024 on our official FB page
PRIZES & AWARDS
Each category will have one Prize Winner – First Place.
Second & third prize winners will receive Diploma & Trophy Awards too.
Participants, who do not receive a prize, will receive a Diploma of participation.
According to the results of auditions and depending on the established number of prizes, the Jury reserves
the right: - to divide prizes among bigger number of participants
Grand Prix of the Competition: one JUNIOR ( 7 – 14 years ) and one SENIOR ( 15 - 28 years )
The Grand Prix Winners will be invited to Participate in the Valletta International PIANO Festival & Competition in Malta
State and non-government organizations, artistic associations, public medias, authorities, companies and individual persons, with the concurrence and approval of the Organizing Committee, may endow Special Prizes and Awards:
Award for the Best Performance of the Classical Music
Award for the Best Performance of the Romantic Music
Award for the Best Performance of the work by National Composer
Award for the Best Performance of the Contemporary Music
Special Prize for the Youngest & Promising Pianist.
